La lame droite de 21 cm est en acier VG10, elle est trs tranchante et rsistante la rouille. Le manche de forme traditionnelle japonaise est en laiton et en bois laqu. (Le laiton et la laque ont des effets antibactriens et antifongiques prouvs, ils peuvent donc tre utiliss de manire hyginique.) La lame a des longueurs suffisantes et est lgre.
